I can not play Minecraft. A certain style of first-person camera, usually in older games, but also in games using older 3D engines, causes me video game motion sickness. Yes, I can see that Minecraft is an incredibly creative sandbox game, but as I can't play it, I'm not really qualified to write a lot about it. Sorry.
There is excellent coverage of the game elsewhere, e.g. at Killed in a Smiling Accident.
Minecraft is a nice little game. :)
ReplyDeleteIf you're referring to the motion bob as you run around, that has an option to turn it off
ReplyDeleteUnsure if it'd help at all since it doesn't change the camera control or view at all, but you can also hit F5 for a third person view.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty terrible way to play, imo, but if it helps with the motion sickness probably worth it. :)
I have the same problem. Third person is the only way I can play this type of game without my eyes feeling tike they are about to explode out of my head.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many first person games I would like to play but just can't :(
I gave Minecraft a shot last week, and absolutely love the game. Bought it as soon as the server was back up.
ReplyDeleteYou can try turning the head bob thing off, and you can also resize the game window, as that might help.
It's a shame that you can't play it. Wanna talk about a sandbox game? This IS it. I haven't even bothered with MP yet, as I'm still having fun learning how everything works, and landscaping my environment.
Yikes ... attack of the pixels, never had a pixelized woody before though :)
