WoW paid character transfer started

The paid character transfer from one World of Warcraft server to another went live. Conditions are found in the official FAQ. But up to now this only works on the US servers, and the list of eligible realms is still rather short.

Blizzard is obviously still a bit unsure about how much demand there will be, so they are phasing in the service slowly.
Comments:
Paid transfer for only selected realms is ridiculous. People whined for paid transfer because of the freedom to go to the realm that suits them more for a price. Right now as it is, you have to pay to transfer only on servers which are overpopulated which rightfully should be free because of Blizzard failure to foresee this problem during launch and take preventive measures.

Learn2Read Sticky posts. There is a reason they are only doing a few select realms. And LearnFromHistory. UO did shard transfers and had a huge dupe bug.
Wait, I'll sch00l ya - it's like in Beta, learning from mistakes they may make. (Rather they screw up 10 or so servers instead of 160+)

On the other point of Overpopulated servers, I agree. But people do choose their own fate (and yes, I feel bad for the older subs, the newer ones I guess weren't as smart to join a less pop server).

Oh yea, learn2read FAQ's. it tells there also, why they only did a few select realms.

I transferred my first ever character off Argent Dawn, a 48 Hunter, and onto Kirin Tor. I was surprised to see Kirin Tor is almost as heavily populated, per WoWRealms (but it never felt that way), as Argent Dawn. I did this to add him to my stable of newer, but much better played, characters there. And he's among like level company again, not 1,000's of 60's.

OMG you use Learn2Read, you have to be kewl. UO? Beta? dupe bug? nevermind, good work on going way out of points on what I was saying. Maybe you Learn2Read my comment. I used Learn2Read too!!111 am I kewl too now?

Learn2notflame, both of you. :)

Both of your points are quite valid, but people would take you more seriously if you explained them calmly and without personal insults.

On the one side offering transfer from only 12 realms currently isn't of any use for the people on the other 300+ US and European servers. Imagine Blizzard would add a new dungeon or world event only on a few selected servers!

On the other hand making transfers free and offering it immediately on all servers would be a sure way to cause total chaos. A fee as a barrier to limit unnecessary usage, and a staggered introduction will certainly make the whole service more manageable.

So what has to happen is that Blizzard quickly extends the service to all of the other realms, world-wide. And those players that want to move but can't yet will have to be patient a little longer.

Consider it testing before all the servers go online with full transfers.

Kinless, a reason why Kirin Tor may be reported as being heavily populated is it could be used by many people as a runoff server when their regular server goes down. When their regular server goes down a lot of people roll alts on any server that's up, such as Kirin Tor, where they play for a couple of hours (or that evening) until their regular server goes back up.
