WoW patch 1.12 on test servers
It seems that World of Warcraft patch 1.12 is now on the test servers. The major changes that this patch brings are all about PvP: cross-server battlegrounds, and new PvP objectives outside of battlegrounds. Unfortunately both of these new features will suffer from the Horde : Alliance imbalance.
Cross-server battlegrounds are a good idea, because they get rid of the "rounding error". The problem previously was that if less players of one faction signed up for a battleground than was needed to start, the battleground didn't start at all. Which meant that battlegrounds that needed a lot of players, like Alterac Valley, weren't always available. By adding up the handful of players wanting to play AV on each server over several servers, it is now much more likely that at least one AV battleground will be open most of the time.
That pretty much eliminates waiting in a battleground queue, ... for the Horde. Alliance will still be waiting in line a lot. There are between 1.5 to 2 times as many Alliance players as there are Horde players on all servers, and thus the number of battlegrounds opening up is limited by the number of Horde players. So if there are 200 Horde players and 300 to 400 Alliance players wanting to do battlegrounds, all the Horde players and 200 of the Alliance players will be able to play, and the 100 to 200 remaining Alliance players will be forced to wait.
Blizzard "balances" that by the other new PvP feature, PvP objectives in Silithus and Plaguelands. These favor the Alliance, because there are no restrictions to the number of players able to participate on each side. Thus Alliance will "win" these by default, due to greater numbers. I don't really understand what that is supposed to add to the game.

Several controversial issues were being covered in the 1.12 patch.
Apparently battlegrounds now force you into a raid group from which you can't leave. Most people think this is good since it prevents honor farming in small groups during a battle.
Also the outcry over nerfing windfury totem was finally listened to and the nerf is not making it into the patch.

Forced into a raid group? that kinda blows. How would they determine the leader? would it matter?
All I know is if my guild is doing a PVE run now im going to be forced to be in another raid just cause im in a bg.
I hate hearing about changes without knowing the reasoning behind the changes.

My beef with the test servers is their hours of operation, 3am to 3pm pst. Yes, I understand the systems/load implications of this time frame, but shouldn't one of the goals of the test realm be to test under "normal" load? Especially given the significant changes to the BG matchmaking, I would think this would be a strong priority.
In addition, the layers of communication now required for cross-server-linked BGs sound cumbersome. It's vital that communication remains simple and easy for BGs after the linking.
I like the auto-join-raid change, and the selection of the top ranked player doesn't bother me either. I'm going to assume that the top ranked player will know a thing or two about inviting/promoting/shuffling around the raid groups.

Well, if the BG raid is auto-invite and you can't leave it, then the raid leader can't do much inviting or promoting either, he can only shuffle groups.
On a different note, my experience with newer servers has exclusively been more Horde than Alliance.
While all the old servers continue to be heavily Alliance stacked, the newer ones will actually notice some difference probably i.e. Horde who previously had to wait will probably enjoy going straight into a BG. So it's not more of the same for everyone.
