Burning Crusade now officially postponed

Blizzard finally released a statement regarding the release date of the Burning Crusade expansion. It says:

"IRVINE, Calif. -- Blizzard Entertainment® today announced that the release date for World of Warcraft®: The Burning Crusade™, the highly anticipated expansion for World of Warcraft, will be in January 2007. By adding a few extra weeks to the development cycle beyond its original target date, Blizzard will be able to extend the closed beta test and further refine the new content that will ship with the game.

“We appreciate the enthusiasm surrounding World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and we’re excited about putting the finishing touches on all of the new content,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We feel confident that the extra time spent polishing the game will result in the high-quality experience that our players expect and deserve.”

Blizzard began the closed-beta phase of testing on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade earlier this month. The January 2007 release window will allow extra time for current beta testers to participate in the final stages of development and continue providing valuable feedback.

Further information on specific worldwide release dates, pricing, and other details will be announced in the near future."

Well, I don't blame them. This adds 2 months to the development of the expansion set, and by what I can see in the beta, the time will be needed. Kudos for not giving in to the marketing guys, but insisting to release TBC only when it is ready.
Comments:
But most of us don't have beta invites and we want the expansion now, bugs be damned. Still at least now they are giving us a solid release date. January you never looked so good.

This is no surprise. I just got my beta key 2 days ago and I think Tobold would agree that it feels like nearly 1/2 the expansion pack isn't in the beta yet. I'm surprised they didn't announce a release date around March.

January means March.
Lame lame lame!
Cant these guys work with deadlines? Gosh Darn Hippies at Blizzard make me [sic]

Rofl. WoW is gambling with players like me: players who have a level 60 character, don't like 40 man raids, and who are just plain losing the will to log on until something fresh is introduced.

I agree with postponing the release date if the game is full of bugs, epecially bugs that are inventory based as you already pointed out. But by releasing later, the competition looks that much sweeter to some of us. I couldn't imagine being a 2 year subscribed to this game and then have to wait another 3-5 months for an expansion that should have dropped a year ago. Oh well, thats the good part about the video game market, there will be other games, all one has to do is wait.

I can't say that I'm not disapointed in some small way. New stuff is always fun. But then again, My guild is just starting to get a good roll going in AQ40. So I don't mind a little extra time to progress in the "old game". =)

I can see why players who don't raid are probably bored out of their skull at this point. But I'd like to finish up the "legacy 40-mans" like facing C'Thun and getting a few more bosses down in Naxxramas, before BC comes along and splits us up (which will probably happen.)

I think it's the best decision they could have made. Thinking of EQ, the decision (which really happened because the developers took a stand) to hold OOW until it was ready made it one of the most complete expansions EQ has had. Compare it to the one that preceeded it (GoD- generally agreed to be the worst ever) and DoD (devs have publicly posted that they released it half done).

I actually planned to buy it in 07, as I figured the first release would be a buggy mess and I didn't want to go through that again. Now, I'll buy a preorder and be happy.

Plus there will be a content patch coming with some BC stuff anyway. Your fix is coming!

ps. have any spare ketchup? I owe many many people a view of me eating my hat...

Sigh, I resubbed after a 3 month break recently for the purpose of finishing some stuff up before the xpac and visiting with friends. Now its looking like I'll have plenty of time to finish up what interests me (no time for 40 mans) and then cancel again until the xpac arrives.

They can afford to gamble when several games pushed out of Q4 2006 to avoid BC. With those games gone, there isn't anything to tempt me away before BC - other than real life. Geez. You don't release these talents, calculators and open BETA forums if you're not close to ready. I can't fault them for not being ready. However, I CAN and DO fault them for not handling the anticipation better and being more solid about the date before.

You don't really think they woke up this week and realized BC wasn't ready!

More time to work on my mage.

Blizzard are soo good at this crap...but i wouldn't be surprised if they have come to their senses.... oh not about crappy little bugs that they know 3/4 of the population will have no cares about.... but more about how it will affect their servers if they release new content during the holidays when people actually have time to try and level as quickly as possible. Waiting till people go back to work and school is a very smart move to avoid what were almost inevitable crashes. I for one am very dissapointed at losing half the fun from the game by not being able to keep up with other guildies during the initial period with the onset of work :/
