Vanguard Fileplanet beta started
U.S. residents only can get into the Vanguard beta via Fileplanet. Another restriction is that you have to be a Fileplanet subscriber.
Me not being a U.S. resident, I first got a mail with the subject of "Vanguard beta is here", with a link which sent me to a page telling me that I couldn't get one. Then I got a mail saying "Dear Non-U.S./Canadian Subscriber, We thank you for your interest in the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes beta program on FilePlanet. Unfortunately, between the pre-promotion of the program and its launch this evening, we had to restrict access to U.S./Canadian residents only. However, since you signed up before the restriction, we're going to set aside some keys and make sure you get one." And then finally I got a mail with a key. How nice of them to make an exception.
So now I signed an NDA and won't be able to comment on Vanguard any more until it is lifted. But I'll make notes and report when I'm allowed to.

I've had a beta account since phase 1 of closed beta (I attended their first event at Dave and Buster's in San Diego and won a raffle), but only recently acted on the account. I downloaded the client, and patched all the files, only to find that the entire size of the client after patching was...17 GB!!
My father-in-law has massively sized photos on the computer (he's a photographer), and there wasn't enough space for me to have a 17GB game, so I ended up deleting it all. The last 4 GB of the patch didn't even get downloaded.
I didn't even get to play the game, and already I have a negative review of it!

Not liking the game because of its size is pretty valid when it takes up 21gigs (the 17, and the 4 he said didn't download yet).
I have two 350gig drives and I would still hessitate to get a game that took up such a huge chunk of it.
There really shouldn't be any reason at all was to why it takes up so much.

Anon, you have 700 Gigs of disk storage and you give a f*&k about 21gb for a game? Man, you must be really attached to your huge porn collection.
And Tobold, the vanguard NDA is lifted now it's in open beta.

No need to be a dick about it mate.
I backup my dvd, each one taking up a bit over 4gig... So it doesn't take me long to fill up what I have.
I just think its pretty sloppy of the developers to make a game that can take up so much space, when every other developer is able to chisel things down a bit.
Games aren't my priority, my work and dvd collection comes before it, so if I consider a game too big I just won't bother with it.

Are you suggestion games take less space and skimp on details to accomidate small hard drives?
Im interested in vSoH if it has decent pvp and a gameplay with some endgame depth. From what I have read the gameplay will be different "reactive" and the pvp havent heard much about it. Its beig dev by some of the people of EQ so it might need some work.

I've been lightly beta testing it for the last month and half. Its overly complicated and filled with some things that take a large amount of time. Crafting and Diplomancy are especially convoluted but give a better sense of accomplishment... or something like that. Basically if you thought World of Warcraft was too easy or not deep enough then this is the game for you. They've even been testing out a pvp server recently.
Leveling so far is slower then Everquest but not as fast as World of Warcraft. This is on Beta though so I dont know if the XP will be adjusted once it goes live.

Did you mean faster than EQ but slower than WoW?
