WoW fishing with a Wiimote

Some fans of the Nintendo Wii managed to get the Wiimote running with World of Warcraft. So here is the video of WoW fishing with the Wiimote. I so wished that fishing in WoW was a tiny bit more interesting. Since Burning Crusade you get some really useful fish for cooking, but the process of leveling it up is 15+ hours of monotonous boredom.
Comments:
I levelled herbalism to 375 in next to no time in Outlands, so why is fishing so incredibly difficult to level?
I started off there with skill of 300, and yet I couldn't fish anywhere in Outland without using a lure +75 or more. I'm now about 318 skill, and still get the 'Your fish got away' message a lot (and I have a +20 rod).

I've now levelled my mage to 375 fishing. I've managed to get all of the Booty Bay fishing gear, finally.

I had my druid up to 300 fishing before the expansion came out, but that character is stuck at level 62. I wanted to fish in the highest zones, so had to level my 70 mage from 0-375 to avoid agro from high level mobs.

It took a full weekend and I'm here to tell you... it is truly gruelling! If anyone is thinking of starting it, I'd suggest taking up cooking at the same time. At least then the rewards for your time become worth it in the end. I'm selling [Golden Fish Sticks] for 20g per stack on our server. Nobody else seems to be selling them, so the demand is pretty high.

I'm afraid lures are still needed even at 375 with the most possible '+fishing' from gear to fish on Elemental Plateau.

No sign of Mr Pinchy yet :(

I'm sure Blizzard could have made it slightly more entertaining.

I once levelled fishing to 300, out of pure boredom. Blizzard completely failed to make fishing anything other than a side-profession to cooking, and as a mage, being able to conjure my food anytime, I don't see the need to do so. The buffs that certain recipies give also leave me cold, if I invest this time in collecting herbs I can gain better buffs from the potions, or even sell the herbs at high profit.

I'd love to see fishing more useful or at least more entertaining (the chance to fish rare or epic drops could be the solution), and more fishing-based alchemy recipies (at the moment there are three, all quite useless in the higher levels).

Fishing is unlike any other skill.
It doesn't matter where you fish, you will always be able to get a skillup. The only difference is that it is the number of fish you need to catch.

Therefore it's pointless to level fishing in the outlands because you will miss that much more. Once you're 300 fishing off of Steamwheedle, Booty Bay, or even back in Orgrimmar will be just as useful. More so because you'll actually catch fish more often.

The higher you get .. the more successful catches it takes. Always remember that part if you're leveling fishing.

While it's true that you can level up your fishing anywhere, I think at acertain point it's worth it to push the envelope at higher and higher spots. I would rather be fishing in Nagrand schools of Bluefin, pure water, and Mudfish than just levelling up in Steamwheedle, even given my ~20% chance to miss at a buffed 425 fishing. The buff rewards are worth much more to me than another oily blackmouth. ALthough I am getting pretty tired of the Huge Spotted Feltail. And I got my first goldenscale vendorfish last night!

Eh, I don't think fishing is so bad. It certainly could be more interesting, but if you just want to have a few beers and chat with friends and not do anything huge, it's a great way to pass the time.

While I think the concept is cool, I am a bit skeptical. Unless there is some other video out there that is more believable, I'm gonna say that someone else is simply using a mouse/keyboard in time with him pretending to cast. Like I said though, if it is real, that opens up a lot of options for the use of a wiimote or any other motion-capture devices.

You actually can use the Wiimote with a PC. PC Gamer just ran an article on how to set one up, May '07 issue.

I suspect this player has bound the hotkey for the Fishing "Action" to one of the buttons on the Wiimote, while the Nunchuk controller is being used to reposition the mouse cursor over the cast lure. Rather than flicking the Wiimote to cast like you'd do in Zelda, a simple button press is really all that's required. Likewise you wouldn't need to jerk the Wiimote to "reel in" your catch, a la Zelda, but just press the RMB button, which I suspect has also been bound to one of the Wiimote's buttons.
