No more bots in WoW?
A reader wrote me to tell me that in his opinion "Blizzard made a fantastic smash at the botting community in WoW". Now I'm not playing all that much WoW any more, and anyway I always had problems telling a bot from a real player farming. But I *did* notice that on the auction house of my server which used to be swamped with cheap adamantite ore there is now very little of that ore, and prices have gone up by up to 50%. I wonder if there have been mining bots that Blizzard somehow eliminated, or whether something else happened.
Another sure way to see how successful Blizzard is against botters would be to follow the real dollar prices of WoW gold on the internet. I know there are several price comparison sites, but I never visit them, so I don't know if they offer "historical" data. If Blizzard bans gold farmers or eliminated bot programs, the gold price should go up. Too bad I'm too lazy to check those prices every week.

There are bots still around. I met one just couple of days ago in Nagrand, he was farming primals.
That might be one of the reasons adamantite becomes more expensive: its far more worthwhile to farm primals than to farm ore for chinese farmers.
Another reason is that chinese ore farmers use an exploit program called wowglider. It allows you to teleport anywhere in the world. As its scriptable you can put in a table of all know ore sites and simply teleport from one to another.
As Blizzard moved mobs closer to ore sites this no longer works consistently, so automation is more difficult.

And we all know that all farmers are chinese. And they all wear straw hats... and they all know kung fu.
Wherever the farmer come from, one thing is for certain - they are still there. Maybe the bots are gone, but not the farmers.
Go to Nagrand and there is always someone farming motes.
I noticed a Lv 70 Warlock the other day farming Surges in one of the lakes. Said chr didn't have a single blue item, no guild, and a name like suvwyxr or some such. Unending Breath makes underwater farming of water elements very easy. Maybe I should have checked out the Armory, too.
On a similar theme, the in-game whispers have stopped, but the spamming of gold sellers in General, Trade or Say in major cities has definitely increased.
The new 'report spam' feature has made it a lot easier to lodge a complaint against them, though.

I think that's the main reason. People were apparently teleporting to mining nodes, although I never saw that happen. The last patch moved the nodes and mob spawns around and also made it so that the very act of mining sends out a kind of "call for help" to nearby mobs, making them aggro on the miner. Oddly, herbs were not affected...
This isn't as good of a solution as stopping people from teleporting around. The downside is that it's easier than ever to take nodes from other players. I.e. wait for someone to come by and start mining. They get aggro from the nearby mobs. Run in and mine the node yourself while they're still in combat.

Yeah, the mining change is a pain for me. I farmed Thorium for blacksmithing a couple of months ago. Then I went back yesterday to the 'old digs' to repeat the process for my engineering alt, and found that I couldn't sneak the Thorium anymore. A pain for me, since as a 70 prot warrior I take a while to kill elite 57-59 bugs (usually two, since I can't finish the guard off before the patrolling worker shows up).
A separate mini-rant is the question of "Why do I need to farm Thorium, anyway?"
Well, because my skill-ups at 350+ engineering require Thorium, which is unavailable in Outlands.
Broken design; needs to be changed to Fel Iron.

umm wow glider doesnt teleport u its just a bot program,
the moment a player teleports, WoW servers check if its teleporting wiith a known area trigger or spell or lock summon, if its not using any of the above theres a automatic suspension then usaly folowed by ban ....
