Battlemaster trinkets

A reader was asking my opinion on the Battlemaster trinkets, level 70 epic trinkets that can be acquired in two different ways: Either with 75 badges of justice, or with 30000 honor and 40 AV marks. Unfortunately that is a bit like asking a beggar whether he'd prefer the Mercedes or the Rolls-Royce; I only have 3 badges of justice and 600 honor points on two characters together, so it is hard for me to say which way is easier.

40 AV marks used to be impossible to get when I did PvP a year ago, me being Horde. But apparently Horde wins a bit more often now, and the AV battlegrounds are shorter, not lasting several hours any more. 30000 honor I still haven't got a grasp how fast you can earn those. I only know the daily PvP quest gives 419 honor. I heard people saying several thousand honor per day wasn't a problem for them, but of course that depends on how much you are playing.

Badges of Justice are easier to get nowadays as well. The daily heroic dungeon quest gives you 2 badges in addition to the about 3 you get from killing the bosses in there. And Karazhan and Zul'Aman also drop badges from all bosses, 22 badges for clearing Karazhan once. So if you are in a raid guild that clears Karazhan every week, and do one heroic dungeon per week as well, you'll have 75 badges in 3 weeks.

So what would you say, are the two different prices for getting the battlemaster trinkets equivalent? Or which one would you say is easier to achieve, PvP or PvE cost?
Comments:
Well, which road to the trinket that is easier is hard to say. If you have a spot in a good ten man group that clears kara and ZA weekly and maybe also do the occasional heroic the badge route should be a lot quicker and less frustrating, I'd say.

The PvP route is a lot easier to enter though, since it can be done by anyone, regardless of how far their guild is progressed and even if they are in a guild at all. 30k honour is a fair amount, but it can be done in a week or two with just a couple of hours of daily PvP. A fair amount for someone whi is truly casual, I guess, but not too prohibitive for the non raider that still play a fair amount oftime weekly.

In a solid PvP group or pre-made team that plays most days, you can get that trinket in a few days. The Marks can be an issue more-so now, but it still isn't terribly prohibitive.

Before the Alliance started boycotting AV on my battlegroup (Stormstrike), post 2.3 the Horde AV queues were usually 10 minutes max. We dominated 95% of the games that I played in, so my experience with gaining honor is a bit skewed. I was commonly getting between 1.5k and 2k honor per hour during non-AV weekends. Breaking that up into two more equal sections, I think that in most battlegroups honor per hour for AV would be closer to 800. That would mean that it would take about 38 hours of playing time to buy the battlemasters trinket.

So assuming 20-40 hours for the PvP route, depending on wether you have a great pre-made or if you go at it alone with pugs.

For a good Kara/Zul'Aman team I'd say the time to get 75 badges would be in the lines of 16-20 hours spread over two weeks. 12 badges per 2-3 hour Zul'Aman run, with 12 badges each, and and 22 badges from two four hour Kara runs. I'd say the above is realistic for decently geared and experienced raiders.

However without access to such a team, having to rely on heroic pugs and maybe a raiding group starting out in Kara that is still learning Moroes and Maiden would drive that time up significantly.

So which route is the easiest is really dependant on how your overall in game situation is. PvP is probably the easiest route for the player who isn't part of a raiding guild and who wants steady progress towards their gear.

Look at what's available from both methods before you spend any badges or honour. I do PvP and run Heroics as well as Kara.

Some of the items you can buy with badges are better than just about anything else in the game. Most of the PvP gear is easy to get by running 4-5 BGs a day. You can get at least 1 token even if you get crushed every time in a BG.

Frankly I'm not that jazzed about the Battlemaster trinkets...I spent 41 on the Silver Icon for my Shadow Priest. And I spent 25 on the Badge wand. Once I get the honour and Eye of the Storm marks, I'll be picking up the 199 spell dam one hander to go with the Badge +51 shadow dmg Orb off-hand.

75 badges can be better spent on something else...unless you are doing Arena hardcore.

Why getting them anyway?

While the passiv stat is ok, but not great, the +1750 max life for 15 seconds does not do a thing to everyday use.

I cannot think of more than one or two situations, where using it, getting healed to full health and jumping into combat, just to get hit for 2-5k, makes any sense.. :)

I would rather save the badges for the next HC-items season, where 75 will prolly be the starting price.

If you eliminate the factor that you may want other stuff that can be bought with either honor or badges, It totally depends on your playstyle and grouping options. But if you had any of those grouping options for either PvE or PvP you would not be asking - just guessing - because it would be obvious which is faster.

For everyone else that does not have the options to just get the badges by farming Kara/Zul with their raidgroup and doing a few heroic dailies or people that do not have a dedicated PvP group that regularly wins the BGs it is much harder.

Since PvP is more random and much more of a "just be there" task I would guess obtaining the honor would be easier than doing heroics/Kara. You can start farming honor now, you don't need anyone to help you with that.

On the other hand I am sure that over all you will need to invest more time in PvP than in PvE if you remove the "LFG" from PvE.

For a less active player like me there are much better rewards to be obtained with my badges and honor both is nearly out of reach and will takes weeks if not months to complete. For my badges I would much rather have a nice cloak and a nice belt and for my honor I'd prefer some boots and an amulet ;) Of course I am also collecting Arena Points to spend on some more gear.

Just my 2c.

unless your in a good raiding guild that clears karazhan every week no prob. the PvP method would be MUCH quicker. getting pugs together for heroics is a nightmare. pvp you just queue up and hop in.

As others have said, I don't think the health boost is much use for your average range dps, and certainly the Silver Crescent or one of a number of other trinkets are worth getting instead of this.

Any decent pvp guild should be able to run heroics without too much trouble.

Correction: pve guild. :O

Battlemaster trinkets are overpriced. It is a freakin' trinket...you can get a two-hand epic season 1 item for 27k, why would I want to spend 30k on a trinket unless I already have all the season 1, and non set pvp gear?

Wait a few months and I bet the price will come down.

I also think think trinket isn't that usefull. An extra 2k health in pvp is a couple of extra seconds, if that. The only think I like about the trinket is the extra stats, but they are marginal at best.

30k?....no way......75 badges? even more no way....cool icons though.

Well, with my arena PvP experience, I can say that this trinket is not overpriced at all, when you see the way it could totaly change the issue of a battle.

Don't forget that this trinket is not influented in any way by Warriors/Hunters Mortal Strike or the Rogue Wounding poison. It is one of the tools which can able you to not be gibbed in a heavy focus.

Let's look at the number of rogue/ms war in Arena today thanks to Raddy (http://www.radikalnoise.com/) :
