Age of Conan release date
Nobody believes in the release dates that game shops list, those are often just rough estimates. But for once they got it right, Funcom confirmed the release date for Age of Conan to be March 25. The guys from Funcom obviously share everybody's belief that there will be a major clash of release dates between WotLK and WAR in the second half of this year, and are trying to get their game out well in advance of that. Which can work if, and only if, Age of Conan is polished enough and fun on release. Unfortunately there are rumors to the contrary. And being the "MMO with boobs" isn't going to save them if they release a game of Vanguardian state of readiness.

I can tell you right now it's -far- from Vanguard atm, however they do seem to be dumbing it down a bit (they've cut the classes down to 12). Plus there are still no female characters, and nobody has seen Border Kingdoms/City Building/World PVP or actually been in Raid Content.
It's quite buggy, but they have the time to fix it, let's just hope they do.

Great another game rushed out the door to beat another game that will be rushed out the door. Cant wait
"there are still no female characters"
WTF!! How can the "MMO with boobs" not have female characters??? Im not going to buy that game ;)

It's also worth noting that the 25th March 2008 Release Date has actually been the one Funcom told us the day they delayed AoC last year. So this isn't really news, just a heads up Tobold!
People are going to be in for a HUGE shock if they think that Conan will have fewer kiddies playing it because it has an M rating. Being the MMO with boobies is only going to encourage the horny 13 year olds to play.
Well the moment they started talking about it being an adult game with High system specs I pretty much wrote it off as ever having a chance of being a huge hit.
And the rumors so far seem to bear that out.
But we'll see. I predict all thier hype about keeping the kiddies out will fill thier servers with kiddies wanting to see the boobs.
Sure fire way to get all the adolescents into the game is tell em its for grown ups.

I am usually drawn into a game by the graphics (looking great so far), the story (I devoured Conan novels as a kid, long before D&D books / LOTR boredom) and the characters I wanted to play (Lich class - now removed unfortunately).
What puts me off:
- most likely the demand for a highend PC like Crysis (LOTRO runs great on my PC and looks great, if AoC needs more PC power, it is not for me)
- the hardcore PvP approach (me being the carebear + PvE gamer I am not so much thrilled)
- the overdone gore + violence theme (chop-chop finishing moves)
- the potential to meet only hardcore PvP guilds in the game that smash & smite you a dozen times
Also, my current time budget does not leave me much left for another MMOPG, I will stick to LOTRO (I have paid the founder option once, now I play for free) and WOW (biggest kid around the block), especially now that Star Trek Online will be significantly delayed into ... dunno, 2012 or something. So the next 3 years will be dedicated to WoW as Blizzard will most likely learn from TBC what they can do better. Well, TBC today feels much, much better than TBC in April/May where I thought I'd quit as the annoyance knew no end:
- ridiculous attunement for raids
- need to play instances endlessly for reputation
- no dailies
- horrible Prime material farming
I am looking forward to WotLK. And Book 12 of LOTRO. And the next LOTRO expansion which will most likely be launched end of the year in competition to WotLK. Will buy two, anyway.
