Shalkis kills Shartuul

In an unusual reversal of roles I got to ask another blogger to write a blog entry answering one of my questions. Shalkis mentioned in a comment here that he kills Shartuul whenever he has the necessary Darkrunes. I knew that encounter, had tried it a couple of times, but failed every time in the second or third stage. So I asked Shalkis to write up instructions on how to kill Shartuul, which he did. Thanks a lot, Shalkis, much appreciated!
Comments:
Are the rewards for killing him really worth all the time and effort spent learning that procedure and gathering the required materials, then executing it over and over?

Looks like he drops blues or epics that need to be combined with spirit shards. Is the entire point then to sell those items to other players?

How much money should one expect to make per kill, on average?

What hatch said.

Is there any real reason to win the encounter beside bragging rights?

After having read that, I can offically say, "Holy crap!" My head is spinning.

The Shartuul is probably the most individually challenging event in world of warcraft right now. It's mainly for bragging rights, but you also get a guaranteed rare-quality depleted item from it.

Well.. there's always the 1.4k-2.5k money you can get from selling a Badge of Tenacity..

In any case, Shartuul is basically a raid encounter scaled down to a single player. I took me many tries to learn it, but I've sold 4 of those trinkets already as well as various other items. For ~20-30 minutes of total time spent, Shartuul is potentially one of the most time-efficient ways of making money.

If you are doing Ogri'la dailies, you are going to end up with Dark Runes anyway. May as well do the encounter. :)

I've always found it a nice challenge, though the time I actually was winning the event it bugged out and Shartuul never spawned. Haven't tried since.
