Open Sunday Thread

So, what do you want to talk about today? It's the open Sunday thread again, where it's your turn to write, propose subjects, and discuss.
Comments:
Have WAR developers explained how new players will be able to complete the major public quest when there won't be enough characters? This is based on the fact that each month a MMO is out, the ability to find groups at lower level becomes increasingly difficult.

How many people actually are/consider going back to the lich king after playing WAR?

how much blizzcon blew?

I'm not following Blizzcon news, I've outsourced that task to a little-known site called WoWInsider.

PQs are actually quite do-able with 3 people in a semi organized party... they key to leveling up post launch will be having a group of friends that sync with your playtime. WAR's weakest leveling point is its solo PvE, but honestly Im so tired of solo questing that WARs apparent lack doesn't bother me in the least.

I'd agree PQ's are very doable with a small focussed group. I'd like to see WAR implement a Voice Comms system - much like WOW's where you can voice chat to group members and your char is highlighted when it does so. Would certainly make RVR easier to coordinate.

I never really got to great heights in WOW and after playing WAR i'm reasonably confident I won't be returning to WOW.

To me it sounds like warhammer could use a "downranking" or "reverse bolstering" type system, where if a character goes back to a lower level area and joins a group in it, does RvR, etc., that they will get reduced down to the equivalent of the character level for that area. They would than get a somewhat higher renown/experience reward from doing PQ's, scenarios, RvR, etc., and perhaps gear rewards would be scaled for that character to the proper level as well, to make up for the fun they miss at higher levels.

also, I think warhammer could have done better with a system sort of like guild wars, where servers of a particular type are clustered together. If the population is small in a particular area, people in that area would be sent to just one server when they log in, but if the population in an area gets larger, they would get split at some convienient point into two servers, but still with the possibility of freely moving quickly between servers to play with friends and such. I'm not sure how hard this would be to implement, though.

The first of these complaints are beginning to emerge. Just as I said they would as soon as the NDA was dropped.

Where's my cookie?

There's something I'd like to see discussed.

The MMORPG blogosphere has actually done WAR players a disservice, of a sort, by forming Casualties of WAR and going Destro. Almost all of the WAR blogging taking place is from the Destro perspective. That means it's focused on the things that Destro players dislike: for example, server and scenario queues, and also the fact that Destro owns all tiers and can't find an Order to pwn in RvR anywhere. And of course the ever-multiplying client issues list (I'm astounded that the client performance is getting worse instead of better...!)

Need a few of you guys with soapboxes and an audience to go roll Order and get a taste of the other side. Yes, I know you made your "Sacking Altdorf is EZMode" post recently, but Order has some HUGE problems right now that are getting no attention from the online media.

Order pops are dropping, even with the xp bonuses Mythic keeps adding to more servers. There's very little Order RvR because there aren't enough interested players to form a warband.

As soon as an Order warband tries to go anywhere, three or four Destro warbands drop in and wax them. On Volkmar we have two hard-core Order guilds, who discovered over a week ago that there are bugs that actually prevent Order from taking the tier 4 Destro keeps, making a siege of Invincible City actually IMPOSSIBLE at this time. Yes, it cannot be done because two of the three keeps are bugged out.

All this stems from the fact that Mythic spent years tinkering with the Destro stuff, and only started throwing in Order very late in the development process. Destro is sekxy, and Order wears the same white chain mail dresses for 40 levels and is technically prevented from sacking the tier 4 city.

Several people in my Order guild canceled their subs this week and will not be coming back. They don't want to play Destro, but they don't want to farm scenarios full time either (which is pretty much all anyone in Order does anymore). They wanted to RvR... and there is no WAR in Warhammer. There's a map full of red keeps and a rapidly shrinking Order population that's largely uninterested in doing anything about that, because it seems pointless to bang one's head against futility.

Anyway. If you could at least help bring some attention to the problems with Order, that'd be good. Mythic's gonna be pretty hosed unless they do something soon - the Destro's will get tired of perma-owning Altdorf NPCs and quit too, if there's never any actual RvR to be had.

I do not pretend to have all the solutions. In the short term Order needs more bonuses, some of the Destro classes should probably be nerfed until the population balances itself, and the High Elf race needs a complete art asset overhaul. There's more to do be done after that but those three are almost imperative.

Talk about WAR capital cities. :D

In the first content patch after Wotlk, we will be able to stay mounted while swimming in WoW. Truely game breaking :D

I have not played WoW since May of 2007. My main is a level 70 undead mage with the Epic Tailoring set and a few S1 arena items. I do not have an epic flying mount, or for that matter 1k gold. My next highest char is a 60 troll rogue who have not logged onto since he won his Tier 2 Onyxia helm. In your opinion, what is the best course of action for a player like me who will be returning to WoW for WoTLK after a long stint away?
Should I:

a) Continue on my Mage/rogue and bank on the 1337 green quest rewards to get me caught up again

b) Roll a Death Knight so that nobody sees that all of my gear is over a year old

c) abandon the Horde and start anew by rolling an alliance toon (the idea here is that it will truly seem like a whole new game)

Casualties of WAR is NOT a Destro guild, it covers both factions. I'm on the Order side of it.

I'd go for the Death Knight, or leveling your old characters up quickly due to the increased leveling speed to 70 that WotLK brings. Rolling a new toon is only fun if you don't mind being very, very alone for the first 60 levels.

Anyone else find it interesting that the Death Knight starting areas as the first non high level zones added since...the starter areas for Dranei and Blood Elves?

Makes me wonder if they will have more of these "Tortage-like" areas of solo instanced PVE content in which a player sees the story and zone change around him/her.
