Open Sunday Thread

Halloween is over, there are the first christmas decorations in the shops, and it is Sunday again: Time for the open Sunday thread. Post what you'd like to see discussed, or start discussions among you.

With the recent nerfs to raid content in WoW, does anyone feel this will lead to a more pronounced feeling of entitlement amongst raiders/players going into WOTLK? Will players who are now used to zerging BT going to fill the forum pages with 'why is Naxx so hard?', and will Blizzard adjust accordingly?

Interesting I think noting our guild killed four new bosses in BT within one hour, all one-shots tonight. It almost took the fun out of it to tell you the truth.

Thoughts?

Are you in the mood to look at lesser known MMO's like Spellborn?
With so many different approaches to the genre (no elves or dwarves, no gear dependence, a real aim mechanism for skills, and HOW skills actually work), do you think it can garner at least a niche audience and survive?
Also have you dipped into Runes of Magic?

How do you think including voice chat automatically in MMO's from the start would effect the games? (Whether it would be automatically including ventrillo/teamspeak with the game with some auto-join features, or just including it in game, or something else.)

It seems like a useful method to help PUG's, since voice would allow faster coordination, and might give the sense better that the other players are real people rather than characters (which may improve manners somewhat.), even if only 1-2 people per group had a microphone for it, but this may or may not actually work out the way I'd expect.

(Of course, this is all assuming the voice chat actually worked.)

Paladin ret nerfs? I read a lot of paladin blog's/sites since I play a paladin and people are kinda upset at blizzard's reaction, but they are also not really the surprised. Check out blessing of kings for a pretty good theory on how blizzard messed ret paladins up so badly.

Ah voice in PuGs... There is nothing like the experience of having to listen to the random and irrelevant barking of complete strangers at all possible volumes out of my speakers. The noise vs. information ratio on voice usually makes me want to kill people :P. If I wanted to socialize verbally I would call a friend and talk or go out or something ;).

There will always be a market for JC and enchanting as new gems and enchants are needed each time gear is upgraded. Is there, therefore, any future in inscription?

I think it will put a real burden on the hearing impaired as well as increase harassment against women. I'd also expect fewer parents to allow their children to play unsupervised (probably a good thing).

The single greatest impact would be a severe reduction in manginas )

Huh, that's odd. Usually my experience has been good, or the opposite, either people didn't talk, or it worked well.

increase harassment against women

What sort of harassment would this be? It seems that the "this is a real person I'm playing with" effect would include issues with females, though I could see issues with guilds and such.

i say bring on the voice chat in PuGs...now. If you asked me that a year ago before broadband opened up in my area I might have told you to go to hell

Do you think some types of classes are always problematic in MMOs? (Thinking of the retribution paladin type, but any dps/healer or dps/tank or heavy crowd control really, or stealth.)

I mentioned this before so please excuse the duplication, but do you have any interest in Fallout 3, Tobold? It's using the same engine as Oblivion, I believe, but it's pretty well done. It feels a little like a FPS, but I believe it's based on action points, not twitchiness. I've played about 3-5 hours so far, and I like it. I may actually finish this game (unlike Oblivion).

I mail-ordered Fallout 3, but I doubt I'll get around to play it soon, due to WotLK.
