Alganon beta now open for all
Little-known fantasy MMORPG Alganon, for which I recently handed out closed beta keys, is now going into open beta. You can sign up via Fileplanet. Alganon will launch October 31st, which gives you two weeks to try it out for free from now, if you didn't get one of those closed beta keys.

I wish the Quest Online guys the best of luck (I'm downloading the beta right now) but I think a distribution through directDrive only and in only the US (disregarding Europe) is a big mistake.
I think one year from now when they do the post-mortem of Alganon they'll wonder why the heck they where thinking ...

Wow, just looking at the screenshots, it looks like a WoW clone at least in terms of interface.
Even some of the buttons look the same. Will have to try it to say more. Hows the Beta eval going, Tobald and those who got his keys?

I'm not actually playing in the beta. Those who got the keys hopefully do, but we won't be hearing from them before the 26th, when the NDA drops.
Is Alganon really not available in the EU? That's very interesting, if true.
I'll be back on the 26th to say more, if Tobold opens it up for discussion here.

halblog, I would cross out the "one year from now" in your comment and change it to "one month from now".
I can't get a to the download because the CAPTCHA is apparently broken. It shows "INVALID CODE" where the scrambled letters should be. Talk about a gaffe.
I wanted to say thanks, Tobold, for getting the word out.
Our goal with Alganon is to start small, opening our doors to those players who want to get in on the ground floor of an MMO that will grow based on their input.
You said it well in a previous post, Tobold. "There is no such thing as 'players doing it wrong'." That's what Alganon is all about - starting with a small, familiar foundation, and growing based on what our players do in the game.
Our players are never "doing it wrong." They're telling us what they'd rather be doing. Our goal is to listen to that, so that the "Alganon of the Future" is based on what our players love.
People who want to be a part of the framework around which an MMO is formed, and people who enjoy a tight-knit MMO community, are our target for this first launch.
That sounds like just about every comment I've read on this blog.
A few months from now, when we start looking to bring in larger numbers of players, we'll turn on the hype machine. Until then, thank you for helping us spread the word to players who are looking for exactly this kind of opportunity.
We know there are plenty of them out there - and many of them are currently "in between games" or "waiting for the next expansion." If you're one of them, I've got just the game for you.
