Now that seems fair!

Conclusions from yesterday's comments on the new Call to Arms system bribing people to play the less popular roles, aka tanks (or healers to a lesser degree):

1) DPS players are incompetent and anti-social.

2) Bribing people to play tanks (or healers) will cause incompetent and anti-social players to play tanks (or healers) instead of DPS.

1)+2) = The Call to Arms system will result in groups in which incompetent DPS players are grouped with incompetent tanks and healers.

Sounds fair to me! What's not to like about this?

You just described the LFD system as it stands. I don't understand why you would assume it's going to be any worse after the change.

I'm assuming that the Call to Arms system will make LFD better, because there will be absolutely no change to the quality of groups, but a huge improvement to the quantity of groups, with a lot less queue waiting time.

Keep in mind this will also be implemented along with the ability to do all 7 random heroic runs on the same day. There is even more incentive to find a tank to queue with, and do several runs in a row.
 
You forgot DPS are also lazy, and refuse to take on the harder roles themselves.
Rather than 'offical' bribes (nothing to stop the DPS from paying people to tank for them), if they had made the DPS role more challenging it would encourage some people to play the other roles.

IF Tanking were to be the easiest role and DPS the most difficult would there not be be a DPS shortage.

Hmmm, I might have inadvertedly written the same post as Gevlon about the subject. Only that with Gevlon this isn't sarcasm, and he actually believes that there is a tank shortage because everybody not currently playing a tank is incompetent.
 
Let's face it. Many people only group anyway to get the shinies. Why make group instances the only method at that level to get gear when it is clearly not suited to all types of players?

This is the complaint many people have with wow is that it funnels everyone into one type of play and being one type of player. They need to introduce other incentives for comparable gear by other means rather than forcing group play for everyone.

If quantity improves but quality stays the same, and quality is below average, you are more likely to have a worse LFD experience :)

Ironic that he'd think something so stupid.

I'm not playing a tank because I'm sick of the scene. Maybe that is due to me being incompetent, or me being competent and sick of the DPS being otherwise, or because there's a problem when tanking and healing are both fighting the group while DPS is fighting the mob. They're working right past each other, so it shouldn't be a surprise that they don't work well together.

I don't agree with Gevlon's, reasoning of why this won't work, but I do agree that this is not a good long term solution to the problem.

Incompetence is probably not the reason for the tank shortage (I personally don't believe tanks are any smarter than their DPS brethren.) But it's obvious that rewards are not reason enough to get players to queue as the tank role.

There is all ready a big incentive to queue as a tank or healer today. Tanks and healers all ready get their Valor/Justice points twice as quick as DPSers do. All that leads to is tanks and healers getting their gear quicker, and leaving the system before their DPS buddies are finished with it.

If all players care about is their "epix", then they would have been queueing as tanks and healers long ago - as this provides the quickest means.

Obviously there is some other reason as to why players don't want to queue as tanks or healers, as even with the option to double the rewards bu queueing as a tank is not enough incentive for them to do so. Throwing more rewards into the pot will not fix this. All this may do is bring in other players that DO like playing as tanks/healers that would not have queued otherwise.

How many mounts or pets before tanks are bored (or fed up) with heroics again? It's not a long term solution, as there is no reason to come back after you get what you want (or are tired of waiting for it to drop).
 
I'm sure a large part of the reason people don't want to queue as tanks or healers is because of the spoiled, rude, and borderline-sociopathic behavior of those they end up grouped with.

It's not exactly fun to, when make a mistake as a tank or healer, have another player berate you, tell you that you are terrible, tell you to commit suicide (irl), etc. Much easier to just queue as dps and have all blame for group ineffectiveness automatically lifted from your shoulders.

I had an experience like that above on my warrior and haven't queued as a tank since. I absolutely refuse to reward any player for that kind of behavior with a dungeon run.

This new bribery won't really make any difference. I won't tank for random WoW a-holes.
