GuildCafe
There is a new social network for online gamers in beta, called GuildCafe. You can create a profile there, like mine:
and enter a history of all the online games you ever played. From that GuildCafe compiles statistics on the history of online games, telling you which game was most popular in what year, or what is the most anticipated game.
The Bartle Test questionaire has moved to GuildCafe as well. Your game history and Bartle test results are stored in a "tag cloud" allowing you to find people with similar interests. There is a forum, and even a blogging corner, although that one lists only GuildCafe blogs, and I couldn't find a feature that would allow me to link to this blog.
Social networks for online gamers seem to be the latest big thing. Everybody wants to be the next MySpace. Even Shawn Fanning, creator of Napster, says that his next project, called Rupture, is a virtual social community for online gamers. But as Rupture is still in closed beta, and only invites "selected qualified" World of Warcraft guilds, GuildCafe might be the better choice for the moment.
