Craig's WoW in 2006 review
This year I didn't bother to write a review of all the games I played, because it basically would have said "I played World of Warcraft". But Craig wrote a long review of his year 2006 in World of Warcraft. An impressive raid calendar with up to 22 raids per month, and a slow progress from BWL to Naxxramas.
I don't keep records of all the raids I attended and what loot I got in each one. But for me 2006 started with my undead priest at level 42, and my level 60 warrior being semi-retired because nobody needs warriors. It ended with my undead priest in 5 pieces of tier 1 and 3 pieces of tier 2 gear, and my warrior having not advanced except for getting a high warlord 1h weapon from PvP. Instead I leveled a second priest to 60, Alliance this time and on a new server, but that wasn't a terribly bright idea, because having two level 60 priests is boring. I did spend quite some time raiding, getting up to the end of BWL, but due to Real Life ® preventing me from raiding every weekday, I don't think I ever did more than a dozen raids in a month.
How did your year 2006 look in review?

WoW year 2006:
After about 2800 hours of playtime since wow eu release, my social and real life nearly inexistent and my study in danger, I sold my WoW account in june 2006 on ebay.
It really hurt and sometimes i miss my little gnome mage, but overall i think it was the right decisicon.
And for the money from my account i got myself a nintendo ds lite.
to soften the pain a bit. :)
reallife year 2006:
till june 2006 there was no reallife. ;)
but after that i got back into my study, started my thesis and got my diploma 2 month ago.
at least in reallife some sort of happy ending. :D

Congrats on the diploma, and good luck with the Thesis. I've spoken with people who willingly admit the negative effect WoW is having on their life (social, study, work, etc) but are unable or unwilling to do anything about it.
WoW 2006 for me: I got an invite to my first Onyxia Raid and scored my DS Helm and the Sinew. I then bought my way onto an MC Raid with the same Guild and got the Leaf and my GS Gloves. Killed 2 of the 4 Demons, and was killed numerous times by the remaining 2. I also leveled a Gnome Warlock to 45 and have him 2/3 to Exalted with Darnassus.
Real Life: pretty much another year of the same old drudgery as Government employee, but it pays the bills, the benefits are good and the job security is excellent :P

The whole work/life/game balance seems to be a big topic - guess thats the time of year for ya, time to review, sit back, make plans for the next year and all...
For me, 2006 went in phases of me living to work and working to live, and some of the latter was working to be able to afford a wedding and the WoW subscription.
Gotta admit - I was genuinely shocked when I saw the number of raids I racked up just prior to my wedding - think I was doing some PvP at the time too.
Still, think I have some sort of balance, got whole lot of t'ai chi done and learnt this year, bunch of gear for my druid and managed to get wed and keep the wife happy - can't be bad at that.
If next year I spot that I raided on my wife's birthday or our anniversary - well then I got a problem ;D

MMO-wise: Pretty much stopped playing WoW around the beginning of the year, revisited some old games (Anarchy Online, SWG, EQ2), stayed with EQ2 for a couple of months, starting from scratch again. Really liked the changes they had done to the game, but found a bit lacking in terms of players at my levels which wanted to take the time for exploring and questing and not rushing through.
When some in-game friends from other games moved back to City of Heroes/Villains, I decided to follow.
Started with Villains and also bought Heroes after a while. Have been playing it for a bit more than 6 months now and love the game.
Fits very well time-wise and flexible in terms of who you can play with. And causes my alt-itis to flourish..;)
Had a brief period during autumn to revisit WoW, but the "sparkle" was not there and I quit again.

MMO:
Not that much has happened. Started the year in WoW in pretty much the same gear on my rouge as I have now, aside from The Lobotomizer which I got sometime during spring, a High warlords bludgeoner or whatever it's name is earned since the last patch, and a warlords headpiece.
The warlock I have hardly touched at all during the year. I'm thinking of getting the warlords shoiulders before BC, but we will see how that works out. I tried doing a few AB's yesterday but I must say that I can't see why people say that warlocks are so uber. I got killed lots by each and every class possible, both gangbanged and one on one. I don't know if I imagined it, but does people go for the warlock first as a general rule nowadays? In any case, my survivability rate on the rogue is MUCH MUCH higher than the warlock.
I tried out CoV when it was released for a while, but it was pretty much the same as CoH. Don't get me wrong CoH/V is cool and all but at 30+ it becomes a terrible grind. Also since I was almost the only one in my villain group that played after a while it became boring.
I also tried Auto Assault at launch. Cool game in a way, but it also becomes boring and a grind. Mostly I think because you spend so terribly long time in the same zone. I think I stopped at around L50-52 or something and by then I had seen 3 zones, aside from the starting area and instances.
Real life:
Finally got a job, after seeking one for a few years in the IT business. I guess this is IT "light", but it's flexible and nice. :) Nothing much has happened otherwise.
2007:
Well in the gaming area I guess BC will be a large part of my life. I'm unsure if Warhammer online is schedueled for release this year but I must say that there's a game that looks interesting. RvR is a cool design that I liked even in the old Daoc days. I just hope that it will not be as terribly item centric as WoW is, where you basically have to get good gear or die in PvP.

MMO:
Too much WoW!
Started in May or so, leveled a warrior to 60 by Thanksgiving. Also have a 45 druid and various 20-ish alts, and now I'm leveling a priest (29) with my wife's hunter (31) (uh oh, the wife's hooked, too).
We're finding that working as a team plus familiarity with quests leads to quick and efficient leveling.
Looking forward to the BC, but plenty to do without it.
RL:
For me personally, same old thing (pretty much), but better.
But lots of things will be changing with kids in 2007 (should be a grandparent and an empty-nester by this time next year). Yeah, codgers play WoW too... :P ...but I'm only 42-ish.
