Goon Squad and WAR
The Goon Squad is a notorious PvP guild from the Something Aweful forums, with the explicit goal to annoy other players in whatever game they are playing. So it caused some consternation on the VNBoards for the US Sylvania server that the Goon Squad is planning to play Destruction on Sylvania (and Order on Red Eye Mountain). It even caused some players and guilds to deliberately choose another server. Well, that's one way to win PvP, if you make your enemies give up before you even start.
But then again, reading their forums, it appears that the Goon Squad won't be all that happy in WAR. As I mentioned in my review, WAR PvP is pretty much carebear, which makes ganking rather difficult. I had to laugh when I read that Goon Squad chose core ruleset servers, because they found the open RvR ruleset "retarded". And in EVE the Goon Squad is famous for having thousands of members and working with zerg tactics, which doesn't work all that well on overpopulated servers with a population cap. They ruled out Skull Throne because apparently there were already lots of Destruction guilds going there, which would have meant long queue times when trying to create characters for the whole huge guild there.
What I like very much about WAR PvP is that you get rewards for active participation, without necessary having to win. There certainly will be well-organized PvP guilds which will be hard or impossible to beat, but you can still engage in PvP with them and come out with xp, renown, and cash for your efforts.

The funny thing about Goonfleet in EVE is that despite their tiresome behaviour and infantile posturing they actually play a constructive role in the game. They provide a power balance to another equally despised large alliance and between them these power blocs have managed to come up with some of the biggest baddest warfare that EVE has ever seen.
In another contradiction Goons are famous for making fun of people who take the game too seriously yet Goons themselves are very serious about EVE. Their online wiki is often referred to as the most complete information resource available for EVE.

Also, the Goon Squad in WoW might be infamous for their PvP antics. However those antics are often a fair bit more creative than the usual corpse camping or other griefing annoyances. Examples:

The Goons picked a core server because of what happened to them in AoCs free for all servers. They were KoS to just about everyone on Deathwhisper and got ganked nonstop. It was so bad to the point where their members deguilded so they could be left alone to level. One guy SmashT, destroyed their whole village by himself.

Damn you and your easterly-Belgian time advantage in posting! Anyway yes, I concur. GS *might* be funny and it *might* all be on huge caper but I don't pay my $15 a month to be goaded or to feel like I'm back in school. Been there, done that.

Hehe I was on Deathwisper too, and I gleefully killed tons of the guys.
They spent the week before release pissing everyone off on the forums, and then couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag. If you're going to mouth off, best have some skills to back it up.
But on the other hand, Hordes of Goonheim was probably the funnest thing about the Age of Conan.

There are no other player base I despise more than the Goons. They intentionally set out to ruin and/or dominate every new game, using guild money to create hacks and generally cheat their way to the top. They did it in AoC and they deserve everything they got if what was said by anonymous earlier are true.
After reading their site and forums you also get the impression that half of them are rasists and the other half are just bullies.

I'm not sure if some of them still rolled on Sylvania, but it seems most changed their mind and rolled on Azazel, which coincidentally is the same server Vendetta rolled Order on. Those that don't know, Vendetta is an extremely organized guild. This is gonna be an interesting fight...Vendetta and Goon's are neck n' neck as far as guild rank and reknown, but Goons have slightly more members. Anyone that wants to see a good fight, roll a toon Azazel!

it is true what anon said. Not one hour after bullies and vendetta showed up in server forums GS was soon to follow. So there destro guild is on Azazel for all those not wanting to deal with there BS.

Goons rolled Azazel because LotD rolled there. apparently they like getting their teeth kicked in or they wouldnt have followed LotD from AoC.
